Canadian Survey: Intangibles Research

When the accounting standards for intangible assets were first developed, accounting standard setters didn't anticipate many of the new intangible assets that are now emerging.

The AcSB is researching whether these standards should be updated to help financial statement users make more informed decisions about an entity's increasingly intangible value creation activities.

As a result, the AcSB has initiated research on intangible assets that derived their value independently from a business's operations. This research will also explore the prevalent types of intangible assets in the Canadian market and the information needs of financial statement users.
